ABOUT WE LEAGUE

WE League = Women's Empowerment League. The top league of women's football in Japan, with professional league status.

Founded: 3 June 2020 (first season 2021–22)

League sponsor: SOMPO

2024-25 Season: 14 September 2024 - 17 May 2025

Match rounds: 22 

Matches in total: 132

Format: Each club plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents, for a total of 22 games. At the end of the season, the club with the most points is crowned the league champions.

WE League prize money:

  1. The champions: 20 million yen (Around 140,000 USD)

  2. The runners-up: 10 million yen (Around 70,000 USD)

  3. Third place: 5 million yen (Around 35,000 USD)

Promotion / Relegation: There are no relegation from the WE League to the Nadeshiko League 1.
